How to Walk With a Leg Cast
A cast is applied to the leg when the bone is broken or when the leg is otherwise unable to support weight. If your leg is in a cast, this does not mean that you cannot walk, but it typically means that you cannot walk without assistance. Crutches allow you to walk without the aid of another person, and learning to get around on crutches dramatically improves your mobility.Things You'll Need

1
Adjust your crutches to the proper height. The top of the crutches should be between one and two inches below your armpit when you stand up straight. The handgrips should be even with the line of your hip.
-
2
Slide the crutches underneath your armpits and grip the handgrips firmly. Your weight should rest not on your armpits but on your hands.
-
3
Lean forward carefully, placing the ends of the crutches one foot ahead of you on the floor.
-
4
Swing your weight forward as if you were leading with your injured foot, but catch the weight on the crutches, rather than on that foot.
-
5
Bring the foot that is not in a cast forward as you normally would.
-
6
Repeat until the motion feels normal.
