How to Protect a Cast
Being forced to wear a cast is both uncomfortable and inconvenient. You don't want to prolong your time in the cast by damaging it or getting it wet. This is the reason why you must protect a cast during your healing process.Instructions

1
Stay out of the water. A cast must not be submerged. During the time that you have your cast on, avoid pools and baths that can get the cast wet.
-
2
Get a dry cover to place on your cast during bathing. Shower Beauties makes a shower and bathing cover that will keep your cast dry. It works similar to placing a trash bag over the limb that has been broken.
-
3
Try not to pick at or peel pieces off of the cast. This can cause damage to the cast and make you need to return to the doctor to repair it.
-
4
Keep the cast clean. Infections can be caused by a cast that becomes dirty. Avoid exposing it to any filthy surfaces.
-
5
Leave the padding on. If you have an itch, don't try to remove the padding of the cast to get to it. Instead ask your doctor about powders or sprays that are safe to use to relieve the itchiness.
