How to Treat Bunions Without Surgery
Instructions

1
Get physical therapy. Physical therapy in the form of electrical stimulation, massage, ultrasound or administering hot packs to the bunion reduces swelling and relieves pain.
-
2
Stabilize your feet by placing orthotics inside your shoes. Bunions usually form because of an imperfection in the structure of the foot. Orthotics will help correct any imperfections and relieve the pain of bunions. You will need to visit a podiatrist who specializes in making orthotics.
-
3
Wear comfortable shoes that fit correctly. Besides heredity, ill-fitting footwear is a leading cause of the formation of bunions. Wearing shoes that give you the support and comfort you need will keep bunions from getting worse.
-
4
Use products specifically designed to ease the discomfort of bunions. Cushions, padding, braces, splints and toe spacers are all appliances which can be worn on the foot to provide comfort and prevent bunions from getting worse.
-
5
Stay off your feet as much as possible. If you're on your feet all day, remove your shoes at the end of the day and apply ice to the bunion to reduce swelling.
