How to Get Rid of a Heat Rash Fast

Heat rash, or "miliaria rubra" as it is formally known, is an uncomfortable affliction that arises from the blockage of sweat glands, causing perspiration to be trapped under the skin. It produces a rash of tiny red bumps; high fever, excessive sweating or excessive clothing layers that elevate the body temperature can cause it. Typically, heat rash disappears on its own, but you can treat it to expedite the disappearance of symptoms.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid hot weather and spend as much time in the air-conditioning as you can. Avoid drying yourself with towels after showering; let your skin air-dry instead.

    • 2

Apply calamine lotion, which will help alleviate itching. Calamine lotion is widely available over-the-counter at drug stores and pharmacies.

    • 3

Apply anhydrous lanolin. This substance aids in preventing duct blockage and hinders the formation of new lesions.

    • 4

Treat the rash with topical steroids in particularly severe cases. Steroids will require a prescription from a doctor. A doctor may also prescribe antibiotics if the rash becomes infected.

    • 5

Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce pain or fever from the rash and apply cool compresses as needed. Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated.
