Collagen Burn Treatment

Collagen is a protein found throughout the body that offers structural support for tissues, organs and skin. Its use as a treatment for burns offers many benefits. Collagen in many products used topically normally come from bovine sources.
  1. Faster Recovery

    • Collagen treatments are used to stimulate the fibroblasts in the dermis, the second layer of skin below the epidermis. The fibroblasts, in turn, increase collagen production, further tightening and enhancing the structure of the skin.

    Pain Relief

    • In a study conducted by DermaRite Industries, a 75-year-old woman with deep partial-thickness burns was treated with a collagen gel. A deep partial-thickness burn extends beyond the epidermis into the dermis. The woman reported an immediate reduction in pain levels, decreasing the need for narcotics in pain relief as she recovered from her injury.

    Better Skin

    • Collagen injections aid in smoothing burned skin. These injections can be supplemented with collagen creams, which further help to strengthen the skin and decrease the amount of scar tissue.
