Can the damage of sunburn be reversed or healed?
No, the initial damage caused by sunburn cannot be reversed. The immediate redness, inflammation, and damage to the superficial skin layers gradually start to self-heal. The outermost layer of sunburned skin peels off after several days as healing and repair processes gradually occur over a two-week period.
Sunburned damaged cells cannot be restored; new healthy cells replace them during the skin's self-repair process. Therefore, reversing or undoing the initial damage incurred due to sunburn is not possible. Prevention and appropriate care when sunburn occurs remains the best approach to managing this issue.
