How to Soothe a Steam Burn
Steam burns, like all other burns, range in severity. Severe steam burns require the attention of a doctor to prevent infection and prescribe the necessary medication to make a full recovery. Superficial steam burns to the first layer of skin, on the other hand, only require attention at home for a full recovery. Soothe and prevent a steam burn from getting worse by taking immediate action, reducing the heat around the burn and covering the injured area to prevent infection.Things You'll Need

- Soap
- Fan
- Aloe vera
- Gauze
- Tape
Instructions

-
1
Run cold water immediately over the injured part of the body. Continue running the water until the steam burn no longer has a burning sensation.
-
2
Cover the steam burn with a small amount of liquid soap. Do not scrub. Completely wash off the soap when finished.
-
3
Dry the steam burn with a fan.
-
4
Apply aloe vera gel to the injured area. Aloe vera helps soothe the pain and also aids in the recovery process.
-
5
Cover the steam burn with gauze and tape. Use moderate pressure when taping the gauze to ensure it adheres to the skin around the injury.
-
6
Take over-the-counter pain medication to reduce any lingering pain. Seek medical attention if severe pain from the steam burn continues.
