How to Treat Facial Burns From Curlers

Facial burns that are caused by curlers and curling irons are actually quite common in women. Most facial burns that result from hair styling devices are superficial and cause only mild discomfort. Some burns are more extensive and require the use of special techniques to both ease the pain as well as prevent scarring. The best way to minimize scarring and pain associated with a facial burn is to treat it immediately after it occurs.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet a washcloth with cold water and apply it to the burned area as soon as possible to remove heat and stop the damage. Apply additional water to the washcloth periodically and keep the burn covered with cool water for 15 to 20 minutes. Do not apply ice to the burn, as this can cause frostbite.

    • 2

Apply 1/4 tsp. of lotion, such as aloe vera, to the burned area in a thin layer to moisturize it. Lotion will help to prevent the skin from drying out and will promote faster healing. If the burned area has open blisters, apply an antiseptic ointment instead.

    • 3

Place a bandage over the scar and keep it covered for 48 hours to prevent a scab from forming. Replace the bandage once per day to keep the burn clean.

    • 4

Wash the burn once or twice per day if a clear ooze is produced. Wash the facial burn with a wet washcloth and mild soap. Rinse the area and dry thoroughly.
