Silvadene for Burn Pain

Silvadene, also known in generic form as silver sulfadiazone, is classified as an antimicrobial drug. It is applied topically on second- and third-degree burns to help prevent infection, but is not used to alleviate pain.

    • Silvadene is also prescribed to help in the prevention and treatment of bacterial and fungal infections. According to RxList.com, this medication is effective in treating gram-negative, gram-positive and yeast infections.

    Side Effects

    • As with all medications, Silvadene has the potential to cause side effects. The most common side effects are burning, redness and an irritated feeling around the injured area.

    • Silvadene can cause adverse reactions during administration with patients who have liver, kidney or blood disorders. A health care professional can explain how the benefits outweigh the potential risks during treatment.

    Interactions
