Finger Burn Home Remedy

Many things can cause a burn in the home. Hot things such as pans, candle flames and gas burner flames can easily cause burns to fingers in the home. One way to prevent this from happening is to practice safety precautions within the home, such as using pans on back burners and turning handles in when small children are around.
  1. Decreasing the Burn Temperature

    • The first step in treating a home burn is to reduce the temperature of the burn. This can be accomplished by putting the burnt finger under cold water for 15 to 20 minutes. It works best to soak the finger in a chilled bowl of water. If the skin in the burned area begins to fall away, you know you have a pretty bad burn and should probably seek medical attention immediately.

    Treating the Burn

    • After the burnt finger has been soaked for 15 to 20 minutes, thoroughly wash the burn to clean the skin of any debris or dirt. If possible, apply fresh papaya directly to the wound first to remove any dead skin cells from the burned area. Apply honey directly to the wound to prevent infection from forming. Aloe Vera can also be applied directly to the burn and is probably the preference over honey, but honey can be used if you don't happen to have an Aloe Vera plant around. Aloe Vera is available in most pharmacy sections for about $7. To use Aloe Vera leaves directly, remove some fresh Aloe Vera leaves directly from the plant. Cut a slit down the center of the leaves or cut the leaves in half, applying the Aloe Vera gel directly to the burn wound.

Lavender is another natural method of healing burns. If you have lavender oil sitting around, apply it directly to the burn. A combination of lavender oil, Aloe Vera gel and honey can also be mixed together and applied as a paste or healing gel to the burn until the burn begins to heal.

    Vitamins and Minerals

    • Vitamin E is very good for repairing scars. Once the burn begins to heal, break open a vitamin E capsule and apply the vitamin E oil directly to the burn. Vitamin E oil is also available in most health food stores or pharmacy sections, but can be expensive. Breaking open the vitamin E capsule is the most inexpensive method of using vitamin E.
Eating the proper diet for healing will also aid in healing time after the finger has been properly attended to physically. Copper, selenium and zinc are lost when the skin is burned, so make sure to get plenty of these minerals either through foods or through a good multivitamin. Vitamin B complex and vitamin C are also crucial to healing. Eat plenty of green, leafy vegetables, whole grains and citrus fruits to speed up the healing process.
