Pain Relief for a Scalded Arm

Burns can be minor, serious or even life threatening. Whatever the degree of damage, most burns are fairly painful. Fortunately there are several conventional as well as natural burn remedies that can bring relief to a scalded arm, or nearly any part of the body that may have encountered a burn.
  1. Sodium Bicarbonate

    • Sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, is very effective for treating burns. Simply mix some sodium bicarbonate powder with water to create a runny paste. Apply directly to the burn and leave. Sodium bicarbonate has natural pain killing properties that should start working as soon as you place it on your skin. Sodium Bicarbonate also is a natural anti-inflammatory that can reduce swelling associated with more serious burns. Sodium bicarbonate will also help reduce the risk of infection with its anti-bacterial properties. Leave in place and repeat daily. You should start to feel a difference within 24 hours.

    Egg White

    • Egg whites can also help in reducing the pain of a burn. Simply apply the egg white directly to the burn. You should feel little to no pain while the white is still wet but once it dries it may flair up again. Egg white is natural so re-apply as you need to.

    Tomatoes

    • Take a tomato and cut it into slices. Take the slice and gently rub it over the burned area. Next gently massage the liquid into the skin. The acid from the tomato juice will help kill the pain of the burn. It can also help prevent blistering in more serious burns.

    Aloe Vera

    • The healing properties of this plant are so numerous that according to Dr. Andrew Weil M.D. everyone should have one growing in their house. Simply cut a branch of the Aloe plant off and split it open. Remove the gel from the inside and apply it directly to the burn. The gel will soak into the skin and provide instant relief. It can help replace moisture to the skin. Aloe Vera gels are available in drug stores, but Dr. Andrew Weil warns that the Aloe content in many may be far to low to do much good.

    Honey

    • For soothing the pain of more severe burns, honey has been proven quite effective. According to Dr. Andrew Weil, it is one of the main methods of therapy in China. Honey sooths the burn as well as provides anti-septic properties. Dr. Weil does warn that purchasing honey from the supermarket won't likely bring the same results. Medicinal honey or the New Zealand native, Manuka honey, is best.
