The Best Way to Treat Burn Blisters on Fingertips
A burn blister anywhere on the body can be quite painful, especially on a fingertip. While you may want to try to get rid of it on your own, it is best to let the burn heal by itself. There are, however, ways to speed up the healing process and to ensure that the burn doesn't get worse.-
After the Burn
-
Immediately after the burn, you want to make sure that the area is well-treated and kept away from any further harm. For a minor burn, run cool water over the burn or soak it in a cool water bath. Apply dry, sterile bandages to the area once it is dry. Change bandages often and allow the area to breathe between changing.
Treatment
-
The best thing to do with a burn such as this is to leave it alone. Don't pick at it or try to pop it or drain it, because this could cause the problem to become worse and lead to an infection. The watery substance inside your blister is actually helping to treat the burn. The blister will pop on its own and drain as well as naturally heal.
Remedies
-
There are many methods you can try to aid the healing process while providing much needed relief from pain.
For pain relief, apply peppermint toothpaste to the blister. This helps to cool the skin, and the fluoride in the toothpaste has been known to act as a healing aid.
A paste of peppermint leaves and olive oil can be applied to the blister area to provide soothing relief from discomfort.
Take Tylenol or ibuprofen for pain relief and to reduce the swelling.
Avoid
-
Make sure you do not use any kind of ointment, butter, grease or powder on the burn, because those will seal in the heat. As always, if the problem gets worse or the pain worsens, visit your doctor to get medical attention.
