Rubbing Alcohol for the Treatment of Burns
You easily can treat a minor burn, on a small area of your body, at home. Although there are a variety of ways to treat burns, rubbing alcohol is a quick and easy solution.-
Cool Water Rinse
-
Immerse the burned area in a cool water bath or under cool running water. Keep the area in the water for two to three minutes, or until the pain subsides.
Disinfect Area
-
After cleaning the area with soap and water, gently disinfect it with rubbing alcohol. Either pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly on the burn, or apply with a cotton ball.
Allow For Cooling
-
Without rubbing it in, allow the rubbing alcohol to sit on the skin for one minute. As the alcohol evaporates, it will help cool the burn.
Wrap Area
-
After disinfecting the area with rubbing alcohol, cover the burn loosely with sterile gauze.
Follow-Up Care
-
Unwrap the burn twice a day to allow the area to breathe. Reapply rubbing alcohol as necessary to disinfect the area.
