Treatment of Pool Chlorine Burns
Chlorine burns from swimming pools are not uncommon and can be caused by adding more chlorine to the pool water to keep bacteria down as opposed to changing the pool water.-
Minor Burn Treatment
-
After swimming, if the skin is irritated and appears to have a rash, immediately wash the affected area with non-chlorinated water to remove the chlorine from the body. An ice pack or cold cloth on the area and aloe vera should relieve the discomfort.
Severe Burn Treatment
-
If there are severe blisters on the skin or if the individual is in extreme pain or is shaking, sweating or is incoherent, get the individual to an emergency room immediately for medical attention.
Standard Treatment for Burns
-
Keep burns clean and dry and out of direct sunlight. Over-the-counter pain relievers and ointments can be used for minor burns, and for more serious burns doctors can prescribe stronger pain medications and creams.
