How to Use Acticoat

Acticoat is a dressing for burns and wounds. It gradually releases silver into the wounded area to fight off bacteria and infection. One Acticoat dressing may be left on a wound for up to three days. The Acticoat dressing should be changed more often for serious burns or wounds that pose a high risk of infection.

  Remove Acticoat dressing from wrapper.

  Sterilize a pair of scissors with isopropyl alcohol. Let the scissors air dry.

  Cut the dressing to the size of the wound using sterilized scissors.

  Moisten Acticoat with sterile (not saline) water. Wring out excess water.

  Place dressing on top of the wound.

• 6

  Wrap a sterile piece of gauze loosely over the wound to secure the Acticoat dressing in place.

  Unwrap the gauze dressing and lightly spray the Acticoat dressing with sterile (not saline) water every 12 hours or as directed by a physician. If the dressing is sticking to the wound by itself, it does not need to be recovered with the gauze dressing. If the Acticoat is not adhering to the wound, replace the gauze dressing.
