Wear sunscreen. The minute you notice that your skin is starting to turn pink, you should apply a liberal layer of sunscreen. The sunscreen will prevent the skin from burning further and decrease the amount of skin that will peel.

    • 2

Rub generous amounts of aloe vera lotion into the inflamed skin as soon as possible. The aloe vera will help ease the discomfort of the sunburn but also keep the skin moisturized. The more moisturized the skin is, the less likely it is to peel.

Press ice packs to the burned areas. Not only will the ice packs help numb and sooth the burned areas, they will also minimize the amount of swelling you experience, the less your skin stretches the less likely it is to peel.

Take lots of oatmeal baths. Many people make the mistake of assuming that once they recover from their childhood bout of chicken pox they’ll never have to take another bath again. The reality is that oatmeal is very effective at helping when it comes to soothing your sunburn. The reason that oatmeal is such an effective cure for sunburn and chicken pox is because it acts like an astringent. It is an effective treatment for eczema and diaper rash also.
