What is the function of coronary vein?
Coronary veins drain deoxygenated blood from the heart muscle (myocardium) and return it to the right atrium of the heart.
There are three main coronary veins:
- Great cardiac vein (also known as the anterior interventricular vein)
- Middle cardiac vein
- Small cardiac vein (also known as the posterior interventricular vein)
These veins run along the surface of the heart and collect blood from the capillaries that supply the myocardium. The great cardiac vein drains the left ventricle, the middle cardiac vein drains the right ventricle, and the small cardiac vein drains the posterior surface of the heart.
The coronary veins empty into the right atrium, where the blood is then pumped to the lungs for oxygenation.
