Cardiology Research Grants
According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. The CDC estimates that an American has a coronary event such as a heart attack every 25 seconds. To try to prevent this terrifying trend from continuing, the American Heart Association offers a number of national research grants for scientists to study cardiology.-
National Scientist Development Grant Program

The National Scientist Development Grant Program is open to all affiliates of the American Heart Association. This program is designed to support beginning scientists by encouraging and funding research projects.
The Development Grant Program helps to fund research related to cardiovascular function, heart disease and stroke, as well as the clinical, community and behavioral effects of cardiovascular problems. The program offers $77,000 towards research, to be dispersed over four years. Only $3,000 can be used for travel per year, and the travel must be approved by the association.
Awards are only given to non-profit institutions such as schools and public hospitals. To be eligible for this grant, applications must have a doctoral degree related to medicine, and must have a faculty or staff position within the United States, but must not have a rank higher than assistant professor. Applicants must also be United States citizens, permanent residents or have a legal Visa.
National Clinical Research Program

The National Clinical Research Program supports scientists who are established but are still early in their careers; this program is open to all national affiliates of the American Heart Association. It provides up to $55,000 to be dispersed over a two-year period.
Research funded by this program should focus on clinical students that guide strategies for reducing cardiovascular disease and stroke. The research can focus on prevention activities or treatment options. Teams of scientists working as interdisciplinary researches can also receive this grant.
Awards are only given to non-profit institutions such as schools and public hospitals. All investigators applying for this grant must have a mentor with a doctorate degree and a good record of clinical investigation. Applicants must also be United States citizens, permanent residents or have a legal Visa.
National Innovative Research Grant

The National Innovative Research Grant is designed to support high-risk and high-reward research that can lead to major advancements in cardiovascular and stroke research. The Innovative Grant program can provide up to $75,000 in funding, dispersed over a two-year period.
The research funded by this grant must use new methods or new perspectives to look into cardiovascular problems. Research must be designed to present new avenues of investigation, research and treatment for cardiovascular diseases.
To apply for the grant, a scientist must have a doctoral degree; he can hold any level of staff or faculty position. This award will not fund current work; the work must be new.Awards are only given to non-profit institutions such as schools and public hospitals. Applicants must also be United States citizens, permanent residents or have a legal Visa.
