Magnesium Oxide & Tachycardia
POTS, otherwise known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which causes the heart to increase in beats when either sitting up or standing, can be frightening for anyone to encounter. Magnesium, in various forms, is one of several treatments for this condition. Magnesium oxide, however, can cause some negative side effects.-
Causes of POTS
-
Folic acid deficiencies can cause POTS symptoms, as can being anemic, or having adrenal or autoimmune disorders, such as Addison's disease or lupus
Magnesium Oxide and POTS
-
According to Dr. Andrew Weil, magnesium oxide can cause irritation and should be avoided. Magnesium citrate, chelate or glycinate, however, are all safe to use for POTS symptoms.
Magnesium and Tachycardia
-
Magnesium assists in the treatment of tachycardia conditions by effectively slowing the heart rate.
Sources of Magnesium
-
Bran, soybeans, lima beans, navy beans, spinach and certain types of fish (halibut and haddock) are all excellent dietary sources of magnesium.
Hypomagnesemia
-
Hypomagnesemia, which is an abnormally low amount of serum magnesium, can cause cardiac arrhythmia. Tachycardia is a type of cardiac arrhythmia.
