Low Carb Low-Fat Diets for High Triglycerides

Triglycerides are the chemical form in which most fat exists in food and in the body. High triglyceride levels are considered a risk factor for cardiovascular and heart disease, as well as stroke. The key components of the Mediterranean diet include generous portions of vegetables and fruits, healthy fats like olive oil and canola oil, herbs and spices in place of salt, small portions of nuts, very little red meat, fish twice a week and small portions of pasta and rice. The Mediterranean diet has also been known to help lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol as well as triglycerides.
