Should you give abdominal thrusts to a conscious child who is choking?
No, abdominal thrusts should not be given to a conscious child who is choking. If a child is conscious and choking, the recommended first aid procedure is to encourage them to cough and try to dislodge the object themselves. If they are unable to do so, you should perform back blows by striking the child firmly between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. If the object is still not dislodged, you should perform chest thrusts by placing the child face up and giving quick, forceful thrusts to the center of the chest, between the nipples.Choking - Related Articles
