How can one stop nose bleeds when they start?
To stop a nosebleed:
1. Sit up straight and lean your head slightly forward. This will help prevent the blood from running down your throat.
2. Pinch the soft part of your nose between your thumb and index finger. Pinch your nostrils together firmly and hold them for 10-15 minutes. Breathe through your mouth while holding your nose pinched.
3. Apply a cold compress to the bridge of your nose. This will help to constrict the blood vessels and stop the bleeding.
4. If the bleeding doesn't stop, you can try using a nasal decongestant spray or drops. These can be found over-the-counter at most drug stores.
5. If the bleeding still doesn't stop after 20 minutes, or if the blood is gushing out of your nose, seek medical attention immediately.
Prevention tips for nosebleeds:
* Keep your nose moist. Use saline spray to keep your nose from drying out.
* Don't pick your nose.
* Avoid blowing your nose too hard.
* Use a humidifier in your home, especially in dry climates.
* Don't take blood thinners without talking to your doctor.
* If you have high blood pressure, get it checked regularly to keep it under control.
* Try applying over-the-counter products like nasal sprays containing Oxymetazoline or Phenylephrine to reduce the frequency of episodes
