What is the first aid for an unconcious choking adult?
Unconscious Choking Adult
1. Call 911 immediately. While you are waiting for help to arrive, you can try to clear the airway by performing back blows and chest thrusts.
Back blows:
- Stand behind the person and wrap your arms around their waist.
- Clench one fist and place it between the person's shoulder blades.
- Use your other hand to support their head and neck.
- Give five back blows, using quick, forceful thrusts.
If the person does not start to breathe after five back blows, continue with chest thrusts.
Chest thrusts:
- Stand in front of the person and kneel on one knee.
- Place the heel of your other hand on the center of the person's chest, between their nipples.
- Place your other hand over your first hand and interlock your fingers.
- Press down on the person's chest 15 times at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.
Continue to alternate between giving five back blows and 15 chest thrusts until the person starts to breathe, the obstruction is cleared, or help arrives.
