What is the danger of excessive amount cholesterol in bile?

The accumulation of excessive amounts of cholesterol in bile can lead to the formation of cholesterol gallstones. These gallstones can block the bile ducts, causing pain and inflammation known as cholecystitis. They can also obstruct the flow of bile into the small intestine, impairing digestion and absorption of fats. In severe cases, the blockage of bile flow can cause liver damage and other complications.
