How to Take Statins at Night

Statin drugs are prescribed medications that help lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein), or "bad," cholesterol. Two studies reported in the June 2001 issue of "Bandolier," an independent journal produced by scientists at Oxford University, examined whether taking statin drugs at night had a higher rate of lowering cholesterol than did taking them in the morning. The consensus was Yes, because the liver produces more cholesterol at night.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a sip of juice or water and swallow 30 minutes before bedtime. This helps to wet the mouth and throat, allowing the tablet to go down easier.

    • 2

Place the tablet on the back of your tongue.

    • 3

Take a gulp of juice or water, and swallow the tablet.

    • 4

Follow up with three to four more big gulps to wash the tablet down completely.
