How to Lower High Cholesterol With Cinnamon

You might think of cinnamon as a spice that belongs in sweet dishes such as apple pie or cookies. But adding cinnamon to your diet could help lower your high cholesterol. This doesn't mean, however, that you can start making dessert a bigger part of your meals. Using cinnamon in moderation has been shown to provide significant health benefits to people with high cholesterol and/or diabetes, according to the article "The Spice is Right" from the February 2007 issue of Prevention.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy cinnamon of any kind. Fresh or already ground in a jar, cinnamon is cinnamon and the benefits are the same for lowering your high cholesterol. Purchase the most cost-effective form or the one that makes the most sense to you.

    • 2

Make a diet plan that includes cinnamon in your daily regime. Remember that moderation is important. Do not additional sweets to your day as it would counteract what you are trying to accomplish.

Add cinnamon to your favorite foods. You only need between 1/2 tsp. to 2 tsp. each day. You don't have to make a special meal plan to incorporate cinnamon into your diet. Cinnamon makes a great addition to coffee, hot cocoa, vegetables and even meat.
