Lescol vs. Lovastatin Side Effects

Lescol and lovastatin both are medicines used to lower cholesterol in the body. They belong to a class of drugs called statins and act by reducing the amount of cholesterol the liver makes.
  1. Common Side Effects

    • Common side effects of lovastatin are stomach pain and constipation. Stomach pain can also occur with Lescol. If these symptoms persist, call your doctor.

    Infrequent Side Effects

    • Infrequent side effects of both of these medicines are change in urine amount and muscle pain or weakness. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor.

    Rare Side Effects

    • Some rare serious effects of both these medicines are persistent nausea, severe stomach pain, yellow skin, dark urine and severe fatigue. You should call your doctor if these symptoms occur.

    Allergic Side Effects

    • Some signs of an allergic reaction to either of these medicines are shortness of breath, swelling of the mouth, tongue and throat and severe dizziness. These are symptoms you should call your doctor about.

    Precautions

    • Before taking either one of these medicines, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. Do not drink alcohol while on either drug because alcohol can increase side effects. Pregnant women should not take these medicines.
