Home Remedies to Reduce Cholesterol
Cholesterol comes in two forms: beneficial high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and heart-damaging low-density lipoproteins (LDL). If you have been diagnosed with high levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), or "bad" cholesterol, your doctor will probably suggest that you start controlling your LDL cholesterol levels with proper diet and exercise. Although there are several cholesterol-reducing drugs on the market, you can balance your levels of good and bad cholesterol naturally, with home remedies and good nutrition.-
Water
-
Drink at least eight glasses of water each day to stimulate your kidneys and help your body flush out toxins, including excess "bad" cholesterol. Add the juice of a squeezed onion to one glass of water each day to help cleanse your blood and regulate your heart rhythm. Add a teaspoon of fresh ground coriander to one glass of water each day to lower the cholesterol level in your blood and stimulate the kidneys to release toxins.
Mud
-
Apply a mud pack on your abdomen once a day to improve your digestion, liver function and kidney performance. This not only encourages your body to excrete toxins stored in the fat cells, it is also a helpful way to reduce overall stress and improve heart function.
Diet
-
Eat a diet rich in high-fiber, low-cholesterol foods, such as whole grains, sunflower seeds, legumes, oatmeal, apples, green leafy vegetables, brown rice, lean meats, walnuts, almonds, lechicin, garlic and soy. Avoid fatty or high-cholesterol foods like red meats, bacon, eggs, organ meats, full-fat cheese, butter and vegetable oils. Try to avoid foods that are highly processed or made of refined wheat, flour or sugars. Limit your gluten intake, and stick to natural ingredients whenever possible.
Teas & Supplements
-
Boil 10 sticks of cinnamon once a day in five cups of water, add one teaspoon of honey, and drink it as a hot tea. Boil two teaspoons of coriander in two cups of water twice a day, strain the mix, and drink it as a tea. Take fish oil capsules before bed each night to help lower your levels of triglycerides and "bad" cholesterol. Take Indian bedillium capsules once a day to maintain your body's HDL to LDL ratio of cholesterol.
