Side Effects of Crestor Rosuvastatin

Crestor, also available as a generic medication called rosuvastatin, is a prescription medication used to treat high cholesterol. It blocks the body's production of cholesterol to reduce bad cholesterol levels and increase good cholesterol levels. Doctors normally prescribe Crestor or rosuvastatin along with a change in diet and exercise to try and bring cholesterol levels into a healthier range.

  1. Muscle Breakdown

    • In rare cases, Crestor and rosuvastatin can cause an extremely serious complication in which muscle tissue begins to breakdown, which can lead to kidney failure. If you notice muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, dark urine or a fever or other flu-like symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

    Chest Pain

    • If you begin to experience chest pain while taking rosuvastatin or Crestor, call your doctor immediately.

    Swelling

    • Swelling in the hands and feet can indicate a potentially serious complication. Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor.

    Jaundice

    • If you notice signs of jaundice, such as yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes, contact your doctor. This can be a sign the medicine is affecting liver function.

    Other Side Effects

    • Other non-serious side effects sometimes reported by people taking Crestor or rosuvastatin include stomach pain, sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, dizziness, pain or burning during urination, nausea, stomach pain, constipation and diarrhea.
