Instructions for the Use of Zicam

Zicam is a homeopathic allergy relief substance that helps reduce the symptoms of allergies, such as sneezing, watery eyes and sinus pressure. It is dispensed using a spray tube that squirts a gel into the back of your nose, and while this process can be uncomfortable to carry out, it has received excellent reviews and testimonials, according to the manufacture's website. Knowing the proper way to use Zicam will help you achieve effective results and lessen the uncomfortable aspects of using the substance.

  1. Before Using Zicam

    • Before using Zicam, you should carefully read the packaging and follow any and all warnings or cautionary notes. Zicam should not be administered to children under 6 years of age, unless cleared by a doctor, and you should consult with your doctor before using Zicam, in case it interferes with a health condition or with another medication you are taking. To help prevent the spread of germs or bacteria, you should not share one Zicam container amongst multiple people.

    Preparing to Administer Zicam

    • Before you use Zicam, you should remove all of the packaging, and place it in your hand with your thumb positioned at the bottom of the bottle and your index and middle fingers holding onto the platform near the nozzle tip. Be careful not to insert the nozzle too far into your nose, and don't be rough, as you could damage the membranes in your nose, causing a nosebleed. The tip of the nozzle should only be about an eighth of an inch inside of your nose, and once you have it positioned, angle the tip so that it points slightly away from your face, towards the outer wall of the inside of your nose.

    Using Zicam

    • Once you have squeezed one pump's worth of gel into each of your nostrils, use your fingers to lightly press on your nostrils for about 5 seconds to help keep the gel from running out. You shouldn't blow your nose for at least half an hour, otherwise you may dislodge the gel before it has a chance to be absorbed into your nose. Do this process every 4 hours, and if possible, start the procedure up to a week before you know you will encounter objects or entities that cause your allergies to flare up. This will help Zicam work better and will provide better protection and allergy relief.
