1
Use anti-inflammatory over-the-counter drugs to assist the body in calming the inflamed sinus cavity. Most over-the-counter drugs are in the form of pain relievers such as ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen. Choose one of these drugs and use as instructed. Do not use more than directed. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

2
Take an antihistamine if you suspect that the sinus inflammation is due to allergies. Use a 24-hour, daily antihistamine such as loratadine or cetirizine to reduce the inflammation and prevent the issue from reoccurring. Stay consistent when taking these drugs as they reach their most effective use when taken 2 or more days consistently.

Drink at least 6 8-oz. glasses of water when trying to reduce inflammation. Try to drink water as often as possible and avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages as these can complicate the issue. Hot herbal teas, clear liquid drinks and decaffeinated iced teas are a good second choice to water.

Use cold sources to sooth the inflamed sinuses. Run a wash cloth under cool water for 20 seconds. Ring it out and place it in the freezer for 1 minute. Remove from the freezer and place it directly over your eyes and nose allowing the cool sensation to reduce the inflammation. Run a cool midst humidifier at 40 percent overnight to maintain proper moister in the sinuses.
