DIY Neti
A Neti Pot is a shallow container with a long spout that is used to irrigate the nasal passages with saline solution. According to the Mayo Clinic, this process helps to relieve the nasal congestion associated with illnesses such as the common cold. Making your own Neti Pot and the accompanying saline solution is quick, easy and more cost-efficient than purchasing one at a retail store.Things You'll Need
- Empty squeeze-top plastic bottle
- Distilled or bottled water
- Dish soap
- Noniodized salt
Instructions

-
1
Use soap and hot water to thoroughly clean an empty, plastic squeeze-top bottle, such as a dish soap bottle. Rinse the soap well before allowing the plastic bottle to dry.
-
2
Pour 8 oz. of warm bottled or distilled water into the empty plastic bottle.
-
3
Add 1/4 tsp. noniodized salt to the bottle.
-
4
Screw the lid onto the plastic bottle. Check that it is properly closed before shaking the bottle until the salt is dissolved.
-
5
Use your homemade Neti Pot over a sink or receptacle. Tilt your head to the side and insert the top of the bottle into one of your nostrils. Squeeze the bottle so the saline solution fills your nostril (the solution will drain out of your other nostril). Keep squeezing until the bottle is empty. If desired, repeat Steps 2 to 4 to irrigate your remaining nostril.
