How to Get Rid of a Nighttime Cough
Nighttime coughing can be caused by a number of reasons, including asthma or sinusitis. In many cases, nighttime coughing is caused by dryness in your throat. Drink a glass of water or juice before lying down for bed. Liquids help reduce dryness in your throat and also help loosen and remove phlegm.

Turn the heat down on the thermostat. Heat increases the dryness in your throat.

Take a cough medicine, such as Robitussin or Tylenol PM. Follow the directions on the container and consume the appropriate amount.

Consume two tablespoons of honey. The thick texture of honey helps relieve throat dryness and prevent coughing.

Suck on some peppermint candy or cough drops. Keep a few at your bedside.

Stand in a hot shower for at least 10 minutes before going to bed. Inhaling the steam reduces throat dryness.
