Things to Help You Stop Coughing
A cough usually results from a cold or allergies. It can interfere with your sleep and daily activities. Some coughs can even keep you from being able to stop without going into a coughing fit. There are ways you can help alleviate a cough without using medicines.-
Hard Candies
-
When you feel your throat starting to tickle, put a hard candy or cough drop in your mouth. Sucking a hard candy causes the candy to melt and coat your throat so you're less likely to go into a coughing fit. If you're also experiencing a stuffy nose, peppermint candy is best because it can clear up your nasal passages.
Water
-
Drink lots of water throughout the day. Regular talking can dry out your throat, which makes you more likely to cough. By drinking water, you moisten your dry throat. It also thins out the mucous that is in the throat.
Apple Cider Vinegar
-
Apple cider vinegar is used to reduce inflammation in your throat and upper respiratory tract. Add a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water, and drink it. It may not taste good, but it will improve your cough.
Ginger
-
Ginger is another natural ingredient that helps alleviate coughing. Take a small piece of ginger root, and peel it. Chew on the peeled ginger whenever you feel a coughing fit coming on.
Humidifier
-
Put a humidifier in your room when you sleep. Coughing usually comes from a dry throat, so it's important to add moisture to the air. Taking a hot steamy shower is another good way to breathe in moisture.
