How to Clear Postnasal Drip
The body often produces extra mucus when dealing with a cold, allergies or sinus issues. Mucus can trigger congestion in the nose and head, and mucus can sometimes drain into the back of the throat and cause other issues such as coughing, difficulty swallowing and a sore throat. Gargle with salt water to dry and clear mucus in the throat. Warm up an 8 oz. glass or cup of water in the microwave and add about 1 tsp. of salt. Gargle the mixture several times a day to help postnasal drip and soothe a sore throat associated with mucus.

Thin out mucus with a humidifier. It's harder to expel or cough up thick mucus in the back of the throat. Use a humidifier to dilute and clear mucus in the throat.

Drink lots of liquids. Water and juices also dilute and help thin mucus from postnasal drip.

Use a saline nasal solution. Buy saline nasal spray from a drugstore and use the medication as instructed to get rid of excess mucus in the throat.

Take cold, allergy or sinus medication. Take over the counter medications as directed to reduce mucus production and stop postnasal drainage.
