Common Head Cold Signs
The common head cold is caused by a virus that attacks the upper-respiratory tract. More than 200 viruses can cause it, and there is usually not much you can do to help the cold pass other than to wait it out. A common head cold is not a comfortable illness and is very contagious. It can be passed from one person to another through the mouth or the nose and will produce a number of symptoms.-
Nose, Eyes and Throat Discomfort
-
Anyone suffering from a common head cold will feel some of the symptoms in the nose and throat, according to the Mayo Clinic. A stuffy and a runny nose will be accompanied by sneezing. Nasal congestion is not uncommon. The illness can also cause a sore, itchy or irritated throat. Itchy or and watery eyes are characteristic symptoms as well.
Upper-Respiratory Problems
-
Because a common head cold is caused by an upper-respiratory virus, chest discomfort may occur, the Mayo Clinic says. Chest congestion and coughing may result also, and this may be partly caused by post-nasal drip.
General Malaise
-
Feeling generally unwell is typical with a common head cold, the Mayo Clinic says. The illness can lead to a fever, usually no higher than 102 degrees. Body aches, headaches and muscle aches can be felt, and the sufferer may also feel more tired than usual.
