How to Prevent Fungus in the Sinuses
Fungus can be one of the main causes of sinus infections as well as chronic sinusitis. Persistent fungus in the nasal passages is often treated with antibiotics, but these do little to treat the underlying cause and often do not eradicate the problem. Persistent fungus is thought to be caused by a disorder in the immune system that over-responds to fungus and mold spores in the air. While there is no cure for fungus in the sinuses, there are several things you can do to help alleviate the problem. Make your body less welcoming of fungus with some easy solutions.Things You'll Need

1
Avoid eating excessive amount of sugars or grains, as fungus tends to grow and feed off of these substances. Avoid other so-called "contaminated" foods such as alcohol, corn and wheat. These also may contribute to fungal growth.
-
2
Take cod liver oil or a high-quality fish oil daily. Avoid the use of general omega-3 supplements. The omega-3 fats in these oil assist with immune system functioning. Follow dosing instructions on the package.
-
3
Take coconut oil made from fresh coconuts, rather than dried coconuts. Coconut oil contains lauric acid which has potent antiviral, antibiotic and antifungal properties. Follow dosing instructions on the package carefully.

4
Exercise daily. Physical activity helps to expand the nasal passages and stimulates the movement of air through the airways. This, in turn, helps to clear out excess mucous which may contain fungus.
-
5
Rinse the nasal passages daily with a device called a neti pot, a nasal wash system. This combines warm water with a small amount of saline. This helps to clear the sinuses of congestion along with fungus and debris in the nose.
