A feeling of pressure in the head is commonly caused by sinus congestion. Instructions

    • 1

Use a humidifier, especially while sleeping. Dry air can cause mucous to crust in the nasal passages. A humidifier will keep the passages moist, helping to prevent clogging and congestion.

    • 2

Irrigate the nasal passages with salt water using a neti pot, a specially designed drainage system that is used to run liquid through the nasal passages.

    • 3

Use a nasal spray. Nasal sprays contain a saline solution, which also irrigates the nasal passages. Follow directions for use on the bottle.

    • 4

Inhale steam by taking a hot shower, sitting in a bathroom with a hot shower running or by boiling water on the stove and holding your head over the steaming water and inhaling deeply. Placing a towel over your head while holding your head over boiling water will direct even more of the steam to your nose. Essential oils, such as tea tree oil or eucalyptus, can be added to boiling water to help open up the nasal passages further.

    • 5

Consume hot soups and beverages and drink plenty of water each day. Staying hydrated will keep the nasal passages moist, and hot liquids and spicy foods will help open up the nasal passages.
