What Is in Mucinex DM?
Mucinex DM relieves coughing caused by the common cold, bronchitis and allergies. It contains the expectorant guaifenesin, which loosens mucus in the lungs and airways, allowing coughs to be productive. It also contains dextromethorphan, which affects the brain by suppressing the urge to cough.-
Uses

Mucinex DM should be taken orally as explained on the packaging. It is usually taken twice daily, or as directed by a doctor. Mucinex does not effectively treat coughing associated with emphysema, smoking or asthma.
Side Effects

Common side effects of Mucinex DM include diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headache, nausea, upset stomach and vomiting. Seek emergency medical help if you experience hives, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat.
Safety

Mucinex DM may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking Mucinex DM. Do not take while using MAO-inhibitors, as this may result in fatal side effects.
Children

Consult with a doctor before giving Mucinex DM to children. This medication has not been approved for usage in children under 2 years of age.
