Mucinex has some great commercials about fighting mucus with a little green mucus monster. But what is Mucinex, and is it right for you and your symptoms?

    • Mucinex is the only FDA-approved 12-hour tablet that provides extended relief using a bi-layer tab. The first layer, a white layer, releases medicine immediately upon ingestion. The second layer, which is colored, releases medicine steadily over the next 12 hours.

    Good Mucus

    • All congestion is not caused by mucus. Mucus usually works with your body to rid it of inhaled particles.

    When to Use Mucinex

    • However, when you get a cold, mucus can thicken and build up, making it hard to breathe. Mucinex works to thin out and loosen the mucus in your body so you can cough it out.

    Other Symptoms

    • Mucinex is not a cold medicine. If you have other symptoms beside chest congestion, you should try other over-the-counter medicines.
