Home Cure for Sinus Pressure
More than 35 million people suffer from sinus disease in America, according to the www.ent-consult.com. One of the most common symptoms of sinus issues is congestion. Congestion is caused by excess mucus, irritated or inflamed sinuses. The enlarged or clogged sinus cavities restrict air blow and build air behind the restricted areas causing a lot of pressure. Pressure can lead to pain in the eyes, ears and in the immediate areas of the nose. There are many natural ways to alleviate sinus pressure and provide relief at home.-
Use a Neti Pot
-
Use a neti pot to clear the sinus cavity of excess mucus, cleanse and purify the sinus cavities and reduce swelling by soothing them with a saline wash. Mix 1 cup of warm water with ½ tsp. of sea salt and a ½ tsp. of glycerin until all ingredients are effectively dissolved. Sea salt and glycerin can be purchased at either a grocery store or pharmacy. Pour the warm mixture into a neti pot. Tilt the head so the chin is parallel with the shoulders. Place the opening of the neti pot on the right nostril and allow the solution to go throughout the sinus cavities and come out the other nostril. Gently blow your nose and repeat the process on the other nostril.
Use Moisture and Warmth
-
Use moisture and warmth to maintain the proper humidity in the sinus cavity and warmth to help the body naturally rid itself of excess mucus. Buy a cool midst humidifier and run it in the room where you spend most of your time. Be sure to keep the moisture level at 40 percent as anything higher can cause more congestion. Take a wash cloth and run it under hot water for 20 seconds. Ring out most of the water and place directly over the eyes and nose while lying down. Repeat the process as the wash cloth looses its warmth. You could add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the warm cloth to help open the nasal passages as well.
Use Pressure
-
Find a friend or family member to press on your head. Sit in a chair with your back straight. Have the other person place one hand on the back of the head, toward the neck and the other hand on the forehead. She should slowly put pressure on the forehead, getting more and more intense for 30 seconds. Let up on the pressure slowly. Take the index finders and place them on the temples. Slowly walk the finger along the cheek bone applying pressure until reaching the sides of the nose. Walk the fingers back up the face until reaching the temples again. Gently message the temples.
