Homemade Sinus Nasal Spray
According to www.ent-consult.com, more than 35 million Americans suffer from sinus disease. When the sinuses become irritated, inflamed or infected, they swell and over-produce mucus resulting in congestion, sinus pressure and pain throughout the head. One of the most widely excepted methods of treating irritated sinus cavities is with saline spray. Saline spray may be purchased at a pharmacy or you can make it yourself at home with a few basic ingredients.-
Treat Irritated Sinuses
-
Find or buy a small quirt bottle that fits in the nostril. Mix 1 cup of warm water with a ½ tsp. of sea salt and stir well until the salt completely dissolves. Pour the warm water into the small quirt bottle. Place the opening of the bottle in the right nostril. Squeeze quickly and with force so that the salt water is injected directly into the sinus cavity. As you spray, hold the opposite nostril closed and breathe in quickly with the nostril the bottle is in. This allows the saline spray to effectively get in the deep parts of the sinuses. Repeat this process two or three times a day or more often if needed. Discard solution after one week.
Treat Inflamed Sinuses
-
Treat inflamed sinuses with a similar recipe and add two extra ingredients to sooth and calm swollen cavities. Mix 1 cup of warm water with a ¼ tsp. of sea salt, ½ tsp. of glycerin and ½ tsp. of baking soda mixing until all ingredients are dissolved. Pour into a spray bottle. Spray twice into each nostril as described above two to three times a day or more often if needed. Use a warm moist towel in addition to the saline spray over the nose area of the face to maintain proper moisture and heat to help drain the sinus cavity. Discard solution after one week.
Treat Infected Sinuses
-
Treat infected sinuses with natural antibiotics added to the inflamed solution. Mix 1 cup of warm water, ¼ tsp. of sea salt, ½ tsp. of glycerin, ½ tsp. of baking soda, 5 drops of grapefruit seed extract and 5 drops of tea tree oil until all ingredients are completely dissolved. Pour into a nasal spray bottle and use two to three times daily or more often as needed. Be sure to clean the tip of the spray bottle with soap and water after every use to kill any infection and prevent it from returning or spreading. See a doctor if the infection persists for more than seven days. Discard solution after one week.
