Will Saline Spray Help Sinus Infections?
-
Use It to Prevent
-
Saline spray is an effective way to prevent a sinus infection, but will not cure one alone. If you suffer from sinus issues, use saline spray on a daily basis. Gently blow your nose. Tilt your head back and spray the saline in both nostrils three times a day or whenever you experience any nasal congestion. Use more saline spray whenever there is a sudden change in weather. The sinus cavity is very sensitive to climate, altitude and humidity changes. Use saline spray when you travel by plane or travel to higher altitudes to prevent irritation from occurring.
Treat a Sinus Infection
-
Although saline spray cannot cure a sinus infection, it can help in the healing process. If you have a sinus infection, use saline spray every hour. Spray twice in each nostril while breathing in. After spraying the saline solution up your nostrils, place a warm washcloth over your eyes and nose. This will both moisten and warm the paranasal area, and will work with the saline to maintain proper moisture and reduce any swelling.
Treat the Symptoms
-
The symptoms of a sinus infection include pain and severe congestion in the sinus cavity. If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, use saline spray daily to treat the symptoms. Use saline spray as often as you like because it is not habit forming. Saline spray will help alleviate any sinus infection symptoms but will not cure the infection. Treat chronic sinus infections with a daily saline wash. Use a saline wash to remove excess mucus build up and reduce swelling in the sinuses and continue to use saline spray throughout the remainder of the day. Blow your nose before and after each application to achieve the best results.
