Reasons for Ongoing Sore Throat

A sore throat is usually the cause of a viral infection or post-nasal drip and goes away within several days. A persistent sore throat, however, may last for several weeks or more.

    Warning

    • A sore throat can be especially dangerous if it is accompanied by symptoms like a high fever of more than 102 degrees F, swelling of the neck and face or an inability to move the neck.
