Sinus Infection Danger Signs

According to www.ent-consult.com, more than 35 million people a year suffer from sinus infections in the United States. Sinus infections are typically easily treated, but there are certain danger signs that may point to a more serious condition.

  1. Time Frame

    • A typical sinus infection will last up to 14 days after being treated with antibiotics. If the symptoms of the sinus infection persist, this may be a danger sign that something more severe is happening.

    Visual

    • The most common visual danger sign of a more complex sinus infection is bloody discharge from the nose or in the back of the throat.

    Physical

    • If the sinus infection is causing migraine headaches, there may be a need for surgery to correct the issue. It can be related to a deviated septum or an over-sized sinus cavity.

    Location

    • If the infection that started in the sinuses spreads, it can cause pain and discomfort in other areas of the head such as the ears, the throat and the brain. If you begin to experience severe pain in other areas of the head, seek medical attention immediately.

    • Sleepiness, lack of motivation and weakness in the body are all effects of a severe sinus infection that may be affecting other areas of your physical and mental faculties.
