Swine Virus Symptoms
The 2009 H1N1 Flu is commonly referred to as the swine flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) it is called the swine flu because it is very similar to the influenza virus seen in pigs in North America.-
Contracting Swine Flu

The illness is contagious passing from person to person and people are advised to be aware of and get treatment for its symptoms and know what to do to prevent contracting the virus.
Symptoms

According to Scientific American, symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Additionally, people have reported diarrhea and vomiting.
Emergency Warning Signs

Severe warning signs when patients should seek emergency medical attention include difficulty breathing, pain, dizziness, persistent vomiting and flu symptoms that seem to get better but then return with fever and worse cough.
Prevention

Everyday prevention techniques include covering the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, washing hands with soap and water often, avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth and avoiding contact with infected people.
Vaccinations

According to a New York Times article from September 14, 2009, federal health officials stated that 3 million doses of the swine flu vaccinations will be available the first week of October.
