Ginger Treatment for Vomiting
If you're feeling nauseated and vomiting because of the flu, morning sickness or even motion sickness, then having a quick remedy on hand is important. If you don't want to take over-the-counter drugs for your vomiting and symptoms, you can use a natural food like ginger to help. Ginger has been used for centuries in Eastern medicine and can be beneficial in calming an upset stomach. It comes in a few different forms, but each is a good vomiting treatment option.-
Fresh Ginger
-
You can easily add fresh ginger to dishes you might be eating for anti-vomiting properties. Try grating an ounce of ginger onto a salad or into soups or stews, or chew a piece after meals. Ginger might be spicy to the tongue for some people and hard to eat fresh. You can also grind it and add it to tea or to smoothies for an easier way to benefit from fresh ginger.
Look for crystallized ginger at your whole foods store or in a store that specializes in Caribbean foods. The ginger is covered with sugar and dehydrated, making it easier to eat, but with the same properties as fresh ginger.
Ginger Caplets
-
Ginger caplets can be swallowed with water and offer the same benefits as fresh ginger. A recent study by the American Society of Clinical Oncology found that chemotherapy patients, who often suffer from severe nausea and vomiting during treatment, had significantly less vomiting when they took a 1 1/2-gram capsule of ginger before treatment.
Ginger Ale
-
Ginger ale that contains real ginger extract is a treatment for vomiting, as the ginger works in the same way to stimulate saliva production and promote better digestion as fresh ginger and ginger capsules do. Make sure that you read the ingredient list carefully. Some ginger ale uses artificial flavoring to taste like ginger but does not contain real ginger extract. Some find that allowing the ginger ale to sit and become flat is easier on an upset stomach.
