Quick Cold Cures

The common cold is one of the most prevalent ailments affecting people every winter, but it can be easily treated by using a series of relatively inexpensive home remedies, which are less likely to cause the secondary side effects typical of pharmaceutical medications.
  1. Whiskey and Peppermint

    • Purchase a bottle of whiskey from a liquor store and stop by the grocery to pick up a lemon and a few sticks of soft peppermint. Boil the lemon and peppermint in 1 cup of water and drain the liquid into the bottle of whiskey, then drink one shot-glass full of the beverage in the morning and one in the evening. Spend the day in bed covered with a blanket---coupled with the whiskey it will help sweat the cold virus out of your system.

    Lemom Juice and Honey

    • Mix equal parts lemon juice and honey in a bottle and shake to thoroughly mix the ingredients. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring it to a boil on the stove. Take one tablespoon by mouth every four to six hours to relieve symptoms of the common cold.

    Pine Top Tea

    • Take white buds from the top of a pine tree and add them, along with soft peppermint and any fruit-flavored beverage, to a pot. Bring the solution to a boil, then let it cool thoroughly before placing it into a jar. Ingest 1 tablespoon every two to four hours to treat congestion, coughing and sneezing associated with the common cold.
