Used for the treatment of cold and flu symptoms, such as headaches, sore throat, cough, nasal congestion and sinus pressure, Tylenol Cold & Flu comes in a rapid-release gel cap designed to relieve symptoms as quickly as possible. Containing the active ingredients acetaminophen (a fever reducer that also relieves pain); dextromethorphan HBr (a cough suppresant); and phenylephrine HCI (a nasal decongestant). While taking the medication as directed can greatly help to reduce side effects, it is important to be aware of what side effects could occur after taking the medication.-
Dosage Recommendations

Before taking any medication, you should carefully read and follow directions on the product label. In the case of Tylenol Cold & Flu, adults and children over age 12 should not take more than 12 gelcaps in a 24 hour period---the maximum daily amount allowed.
Acetaminophen

Tylenol contains acetaminophen, a medication that helps to reduce pain from a sinus headache or other symptoms. It is possible to take too much acetaminophen, which can cause initial symptoms, such as diarrhea, increased sweating, stomach cramping or appetite loss.
Long-Term Use

A long-term side effect of taking too much acetaminophen can cause possible damage to the liver. For this reason, it is important not to drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day or take other medications containing acetaminophen while taking Tylenol.
