How to Get Rid of That Spacey Feeling With the Flu
The flu is a virus-borne ailment that generally is more severe than a cold. Unlike colds, a vaccine may prevent the flu, because the number of viruses that cause influenza are far fewer than those that trigger colds. Symptoms of the flu include a stuffy nose, a fever over 102 degrees Fahrenheit, chills, headaches and muscle aches. Along with these, you may get a dizzy, spacey feeling that can prevent you from concentrating. There are a few ways to help get rid of that spacey feeling so you can focus better.Things You'll Need
- Acetaminophen
- Daytime cold/flu medication

1
Take acetaminophen at the first sign of a fever. Acetaminophen reduces fever, which most likely is causing the spacey feeling you're getting from the flu. Take two acetaminophen tablets to lower the fever, and continue to take the medication every four hours, or as directed on the side of the bottle. As the acetaminophen works, your body's temperature should drop, along with that spacey, disoriented feeling.

2
Take a daytime cold/flu remedy (such as DayQuil) to manage other symptoms. It can help relieve head congestion, which may be part of the culprit to that the spacey, dizzy feeling you get during the flu. Take two caplets every four hours to prevent congestion and coughing, and to reduce fever, which will further reduce the spacey feeling.

Apply a vapor rub to your chest and neck; you can purchase vapor rub at a drugstore or a grocery store. It helps to open your nasal passages and loosen chest congestion. Dab a small amount of vapor rub under your nose throughout the day to relieve the nasal congestion that can cause headaches and difficulty concentrating, all of which add to that spacey feeling.

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can contribute to the spacey, disoriented feeling associated with the flu, especially if you are blowing your nose a lot and not eating enough. Drink at least eight, 8-oz. glasses of water per day, especially if you have the flu.
